Overview of research program
Since 2005, Professor Rousseau has been leading a research program in epidemiology at Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS), a university dedicated to graduate level training and research. Her research program is articulated around two main themes:
1) Studying factors that can modulate the immune response and their role on the development of inflammatory, autoimmune, and infectious diseases;
2) Studying lifestyle and environmental exposures in relation to disease risk.
Particularly interested in the long-term non-specific effects of bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination used in tuberculosis prevention, she established a research infrastructure using provincial administrative databases. The Quebec Birth Cohort on Immunity and Health enables her team to conduct powerful longitudinal studies with several decades of follow-up, large sample sizes, and the strength of population-based data.
